Checkups and Oral Cancer Screening

Every six months, you need to visit Dr. Stewart for a checkup and cleaning, regardless of whether you have a dental problem. These visits allow us to prevent dental issues or treat them in the early stage, when conservative procedures are adequate. Gum disease, dental decay, and bite problems will not heal naturally. Instead, they will only worsen over time. Ultimately, without early treatment, you will experience more pain and have more expense to restore optimal oral health. So checkups and cleanings are very important!

At a checkup, Dr. Stewart will thoroughly evaluate your teeth, gums, and bite (how upper and lower teeth fit together; also called occlusion). He’ll use DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection to find tooth decay and demineralization. X-rays and digital photos may be taken to aid in precise diagnostics. He may also use magnification to explore the fine details of your teeth and gums. You may have no dental problems at your checkup – and that’s what we hope for! However, if you do have reason for concern, Dr. Stewart will explain his findings and educate you on why and how dental problems should be addressed. Together, you and the doctor will determine a practical treatment plan to meet your goals, optimize your oral health, and fit within your schedule and budget.
