When Dr. Stewart screens for oral cancer, he looks for changes in color, consistency, lumps, or ulcerations in all of these areas:
- Teeth and gums
- Lips and tongue (top, bottom, sides)
- Your cheeks and the area between your cheeks and gums
- Floor of your mouth
- Hard and soft palates
- Neck
- Throat
If we find any changes, or any suspicious areas, we will take a sample for further study. We use brush biopsies, a new technology that makes this a relatively easy, painless process.
